This Year Pikeville Equipment, Inc. and its founder
Russel F. Angstadt will celebrate 52 years in the John Deere Farm Equipment Business.
The Business is located in the heart of the Oley Valley in Berks County, PA.The history of this family owned business dates back to before the turn of the century. Morris Fretz, grandfather of Russel F. Angstadt, started a blacksmith service and farm implement business which operated from 1880 to 1917. He was best known for sales of the single cylinder Domestic gasoline engine. Today many antique gas engine collectors will recognize the brass name plate on the side of the Domestic engine which reads: Sold by M.D. Fretz, Oley, PA.
The business was operated by Claude H. Angstadt (father of the founder of Pikeville Equip.) from 1918-1935. The business did not survive the depression and was forced to close its doors in 1935. In 1936, The Pikeville Implement shop was formed by the present owner and the first John Deere tractor was sold.
The business was operated out of the original barn and blacksmith shop until 1959, when a move was made to a new facility, only a short distance up the road. In 1974 it was incorporated and named Pikeville Equipment, Inc.
The management personel of Pikeville Equipment, Inc. have a combined total
of over 143 years of service.
Russell F.Angstadt - President; Roger I. Angstadt - Sales and General Mgr.; David Angstadt - Parts Mgr.; Donald Angstadt - Service Mgr.; and Donald Dierolf - Shop Foreman. There are eleven full time employees, including a grandson in the garden dept. & a granddaughter in the office.
